Education

Columbia County schools consistently rank in the top 10% of Georgia’s 164 school districts. 65% of County educators have advanced degrees, 100% are teaching in-field, and 99% are designated as “highly qualified.” There are also programs – like the Career, Technical, and Agriculture Education (CTAE) Pathways Program – dedicated to students who plan to find work immediately after high school. The Columbia County Board of Education displays commitment to continued success by supporting innovation in education- Columbia County recently has the first middle school in the region to become STEM certified.

Employment

91.8% of Columbia County residents have a high school diploma, and 35.3% have a bachelor’s degree (U.S. Census, 2016). Both are above the national average of 86.7% and 29.8%, respectively. 62.6% are active participants in the civilian labor force. Local higher education institutions are readily preparing students to enter the workforce within the Greater Augusta Region. With world class golf, a historic canal, and the third largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi, Columbia County offers many outdoor amenities. So whether you’ve got 18 holes planned at the Bartram Trail Golf Course, practicing at the International Disc Golf Center, boating and tubing on Clarks Hill Lake, or sightseeing and kayaking atop the Savannah Rapids at the head gates of the Augusta Canal, Columbia County offers an array of arts, culture, and outdoor adventure perfect for a day of exploration and fun.
